New A2 Reading Tests for Kids: Making the Next Step Fun and Easy
After seeing how much children loved our A1 reading games, my mom and I immediately started working on the next step. Therefore, today, our brand-new A2 reading tests for kids are finally ready in our Testing Center! Moving from A1 to A2 is a big moment for a child. At this stage, they start reading longer sentences and tracking past stories. However, if the jump is too sudden, kids can lose their confidence. Because of this, we spent weeks making sure this transition feels completely natural, smooth, and full of joy. In this quick guide, we want to share exactly how we built these new quizzes to keep your child smiling while learning.
4 Fun Stories Inside Our A2 Reading Tests for Kids
Children have different interests, so we wanted to make sure everyone finds a story they love. As a result, we created four fresh stories and split them between two exciting worlds:
1. Stories of Adventure and Friendship
First of all, these texts help kids understand emotions and learn daily words through creative characters:
- The Secret Treehouse: A story about two cousins who build a hidden place in their garden. Indeed, it helps kids learn daily verbs and past tenses without even noticing it.
- Max the Lost Puppy: A touching tale about a playful puppy who finds his way home with the help of kind friends. In addition, this story is perfect for learning emotional adjectives.
2. Amazing Facts About Our World
Furthermore, these simple texts introduce children to real-world English and build their curiosity about science:
- How Bees Help Our Garden: A beautiful breakdown of how tiny insects help flowers grow. Consequently, it builds a strong foundation of simple nature vocabulary.
- The Great Blue Ocean: A story about sea turtles, coral reefs, and why we love our planet. Therefore, it helps children practice analytical reading in a fun way.
The Balanced Layout of Our A2 Reading Tests for Kids
We learned a lot from our first project, so we designed these A2 reading tests for kids with extra care to avoid common testing mistakes. In fact, each text has between 100 and 180 words, which is the perfect length for the A2 CEFR level. To keep things balanced, every single story has exactly 5 multiple-choice questions.
Additionally, we carefully styled the questions so that all answer options are equal in length and difficulty. Because of this, children cannot just guess the answer. Instead, they actually enjoy reading and solving the puzzle! Through these 5 simple questions, we look at three main areas:
- Word Meanings: Can the child guess a new word from the story around it?
- Natural Grammar: For instance, we check their understanding of past actions without confusing them with heavy rules.
- The Big Picture: Ultimately, we see if they can understand the core message of the paragraph.
Where Do Our Stories and Questions Come From?
To make sure our project stays at a high international standard, my mom and I adapted and simplified these materials from the best educational spaces in the world:
- Oxford Primary Flow: We follow their sentence structures to make the English feel natural. For example, you can explore their official setup at Oxford University Press Graded Readers.
- Cambridge Young Learners Standards: Our quiz format matches the global benchmarks for kids. Therefore, you can learn more via Cambridge Assessment English.
- Real-World Science: In addition, we sourced our amazing nature facts from child-friendly networks like National Geographic Kids.
